What people are saying about the change

Matt, Student

"I can confidently say that working as a disability support worker has been amazing adventure. I have learnt valuable interpersonal skills and created some great professional relationships with my clients. This has built my resume tremendously and led to new roles I otherwise wouldn't have been considered for. This has been a great compliment to my Bachelors Degree in Psychology. The Lighthouse Teamhave been very supportive and I have no hesitations in recommending anyone to give this work a try! It has been personally very rewarding."

Lisa, Teachers Aide

"After 17 years, I took the plunge and left an ongoing role as a Primary schooll Ed support/ integration aid. I went from very consistent, predictable work in the same school for the last 10 years to consistent, predictable work with the NDIS within months but with the added bonus of having far more flexibility and autonomy. I love my new role and feel extremely valued and appreciated. My life/work balance is better than ever and knowing I make a positive contribution to the lives of my clients and assist them in achieving their goals is so rewarding. I've never been happier and I wish I'd made the leap years ago."

Marnie, Administration

"I am beyond thankful that I made the change from administration work to support work! Working with people has been such an amazing opportunity, it is a job that offers personal growth whilst being so rewarding at the same time. Never did I think I'd have a job where I could take people to the movies, mini golf, swimming, etc whilst building meaningful relationships and get paid for it! Seeing the positive change you can make in people's lives is truly something that gives purpose and meaning to a career. I wish I had of made the changes in careers sooner!"

What our clients say

“Annette was able to help me explore my local network of people my son knows. It turned out that the “people we trust” activity unearthed some great support worker options. We ended up choosing our sons primary school teacher from 2 years ago who is now semi-retired. It worked perfectly for us, and for her. He loves practicing his counting in two’s whilst collecting eggs from the chickens. Real life activities that help improve his self worth and confidence. At the same time it gives us the respite we need on a Saturday morning. I would never have thought to explore people we already knew as support worker options. It worked out perfectly.”

“They provide a complete service, including various assessments and we are in total control so that’s wonderful. We feel like part of the family and everyone is so helpful. They gave me copies of everything I signed and explained it to me so I knew exactly what everything cost and how its paid from my NDIS plan. I have never had any service treat me like a normal person before, it’s lovely and such a relief.”

5/5

“I had no idea where to start. It was so overwhelming and “online” shopping for a support worker seemed so impersonal. We tried many agencies and ended up with four different workers before we found one that stayed a month. The turnover was too high. Then Annette suggested speaking to our Occupational Therapist to see if they had any students that wanted to work with us. We found the perfect candidate, she is so willing to help and is very affordable. My challenge was finding the time to manage her hours and pay her each week. So outsourcing that really frees up not only my time but my head space.”

About our founder

With her mindset stuck in  “profit for purpose” mode this will be our founders 5th business venture over the past 22 years. Born into “helping people” with a brain best suited to solving challenges she could not leave this idea alone, especially after seeing what a difference support workers can make in the lives of those living with a disability. Support Work HQ was born.
